Here’s how scientists tracked, traced, and destroyed the first ‘murder hornet’ nest found in the U.S.
The nest was found by scientists in Washington state by attaching small tracking devices to the hornets and following them back to their nest. They then removed the nest using a vacuum hose while wearing specialised protective gear.
Entomologists warn the term ‘murder hornet’ is a misleading, implying immediate danger or a threat to people. The insects do not look to attack humans, although the invasive species could pose a threat to Western honey bees.
