Wells Adams and Sarah Hyland’s relationship history

Former “Bachelorette” contestant Wells Adams and star of ABC’s “Modern Family” Sarah Hyland are one of Hollywood’s most unlikely couples.

The two went public with their relationship in 2017 on Halloween and plenty has happened since then, including social-media posts that inevitably make headlines, including their July 2019 engagement.

Here’s a timeline of their relationship.

August 15, 2017: It all started with a tweet

When Hyland heard Adams would be the bartender on last summer’s “Bachelor in Paradise,” she was elated and took to Twitter to share her excitement:

Adams responded shortly after and it was smooth sailing from there.

Halloween 2017: They made things Instagram official

Between August and October, the two were reported to be quietly hanging out and keeping a low profile. However, all rumors of a possible relationship were confirmed when they posted images of each other to their Instagram account on Halloween.

Dressed as characters from the Netflix show “Stranger Things,” Wells and Hyland looked overjoyed.

“‘Hey Eleven…. Make him piss his pants again'” Hyland captioned with a laughing-face emoji, followed by the hashtags #strangerthings and #happyhalloween.

Adams followed suit, posting the photo on his own account with the caption: “11 hangin’ out with a 10 #strangerthings.”

On November 5, 2017, they essentially confirmed they were dating

Days after their Halloween photo shoot, Adams posted another photo to his Instagram with Hyland, both warmly embracing one other and staring into each other’s eyes.

Hyland, noting that Wells enjoys her creative captions underneath her posts, posted a photo from the same evening, playfully sticking out her tongue and writing, “He puts up with me.” A red heart emoji accompanied the post.

December 30, 2017: Hyland shares a cute photo of them in onesies and reveals she spent the holidays with Wells and his family

She shared photos of the pair wearing matching onesies along with photos of her with the Wells family.

June 23, 2018: He supported her through health issues

This past June, their relationship was tested in yet another way. Hyland used her platform on “National Selfie Day” back in June to inform her nearly 6 million Instagram followers that she had been hospitalized.

Although she didn’t disclose what landed her in the hospital in the first place, Hyland said that she would be resting at home for six to eight weeks.

“Sometimes a selfie is more than just a good angle and feelin cute. This time for #nationalselfieday I’ve decided to share my truth. As painful as it,” she revealed. “So here is my face that was torn from work against my will. But I’m very grateful it was. Health should always come first.”

Hyland has openly discussed her past health struggles, even calling out doctors who choose not to listen to her about her experiences with chronic illness.

But, she seems to have a supportive partner in Wells who throughout her time in the hospital, sent her flowers as well as posting encouraging messages.

“I miss this one a lot … coming home soon baby!” Adams posted on his Instagram story, which included a photo of him with Hyland.

On July 15, 2018, Adams was Hyland’s plus one to her high-school reunion

Even though he didn’t attend his own, Adams was right by his girlfriend’s side at her high-school reunion. He even snapped photos with her mates and of course, chronicled the evening on his Instagram.

After 10 months of dating, the inseparable duo took another step in their relationship and moved in together. Adams was spotted moving his things into Hyland’s LA home on August 4.

Naturally, everything was documented on both of their Instagram profiles.

January 2019: Adams told Us Weekly he and Hyland aren’t engaged but it’s ‘gonna happen eventually’

“Everyone thinks [Sarah and I are] engaged right now. … We are not engaged, let me just say that,” Adams told Us Weekly in January. “We just moved in together, so I think we’re still kind of, like, feeling each other out, but … it’s gonna happen eventually.”

Later that month, during an episode of his podcast “Your Favorite Things,” Adams said it’s his pet peeve when people assume Hyland pays for everything. And, in response to a joke that had been made about Hyland even paying for her own engagement ring, Adams said that he will be paying for Hyland’s future engagement ring.

“It will come out of my bank account,” he added, per People.

May 2019: Wells said he and Hyland’s parents won’t meet until the couple’s wedding due to their family’s major political differences

On an episode of the “Your Favorite Thing” podcast, Wells said his parents haven’t met Hyland’s parents “for [a] good reason.”

“They both fall on opposite sides of the political spectrum and I’m just sure someone’s going to get into a fight about something,” he explained. “… It will be liberal actors and my dad and my family who are a bunch of conservatives. My dad’s a doctor; my brother-in-law is from oil money in Texas. It’s going to be so weird.”

He said that when their parents do hang out, it’s going to be at the wedding where “no one will be allowed to talk about politics.”

July 2019: The pair announced their engagement

Speaking of weddings, the pair announced that they were engaged on July 16, both posting on Instagram and announcing the news. Adams posted a video of the proposal while Hyland posted some sweet snaps of the couple after the big moment.
