What is Amazon Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon’s clever way of rewarding Prime members by offering great discounts over a wide range of categories. The sale has been held every year since 2015 and is right up there with Black Friday and Cyber Monday as one of the retail events of the year.

Amazon Prime Day will last for a whole 48 hours in 2019, from midnight on July 15 to midnight on July 16. That’s 48 hours. We checked the math. The event lasts longer year after year. Prime Day was a mere 24 hours the first year. Ah, such simple times. Amazon then lengthened the sale to 30 hours, and last year it was 36 hours. Now it’s offering 48 hours of deals. Will this trend continue next year? Only time will tell.

You can always expect great deals on Amazon’s own devices, and these are usually the best selling items on Amazon Prime Day. Last year, the Amazon Echo was cut from £89.99 to £59.99, the Amazon Echo Dot dropped from £49.99 to just £29.99, and the Amazon Echo Show was discounted from £199.99 to £99.99. Fire tablets, Fire TV sticks, and Kindles were also heavily discounted. Keep your eyes firmly on this page for all the best Amazon device deals.

Becoming a Prime member

It goes without saying, but Prime Day is for Prime members.

Amazon Prime members get early access to lightning deals, that often sell out quickly. Prime members also get many other benefits such as unlimited one-day delivery on millions of items, Prime Video, Prime Music, and Prime Reading. So there’s a lot to like about being a Prime member, but how exactly do you sign up?

The easiest way of accessing all the benefits is to sign up to a free 30-day trial membership. You can also pay for one month of Prime for only £7.99, if you don’t want to commit to a one-year membership, which costs just £59 until July 16. Students can sign up for a free six-month trial and if you’ve used that up, you can still get 50 percent off a year of membership at just £39 per year for up to four years.
