Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 might be cheaper than first version

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold was one of the first foldable phones to come out in 2019, but its starting price of $1,980 kept a lot of people away.

But its successor, possibly called the Galaxy Fold 2, might be a little more affordable.

This is according to a report by SamMobile, which claims to have exclusive information about the upcoming foldable phone. The outlet says the Galaxy Fold 2 will be offered with 256GB of memory, and at a lower price point than the original Fold.

The Galaxy Fold started at 512GB of memory, which likely contributed to its extravagant price, and reducing that in half probably wouldn’t be a huge deal for many buyers, if the price goes down as well. Unfortunately, SamMobile has no information on how much cheaper, exactly, the Fold 2 might be.

The report has a couple of other tidbits about the upcoming foldable phone. The Fold 2 will have a larger cover display than the Fold’s 4.6-inch screen. The inner, foldable display might increase as well, from 7.3 inches to 7.7 inches. It will likely have a punch-hole selfie camera instead of the odd, side notch on the Fold.

The report claims the Fold 2 will have better specs than the original Fold, which has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, 12GB of RAM, and a total of six powerful cameras.

None of this will happen very soon, however. The Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 should arrive in the third quarter of 2020, possible alongside the Galaxy Note 20, which will likely launch in August.
