Ring home security systems on sale with a free Echo Dot
TL;DR: Ring security systems are on sale and come with a free Echo Dot, saving you up to $159. (But read on!)
Ring home security systems are offering some pretty decent price cuts right now and they come with a free Echo Dot, but we’re not so sure you should hop on this deal. Ring doesn’t have the best rap when it comes to handling your private data and personal information. The company partnered with law enforcement to grant them access to Ring doorbell footage, a program which you can now finally opt out of.
Ring has had so much negative press that competitor Arlo decided to capitalize on it (it’s a dog-eat-dog world out there). If you already have a Ring or another type of video doorbell, Arlo will give you $50 to trade it in.
The deal on Amazon right now is on Ring alarm systems and does not include the brand’s video doorbell, so you don’t have to worry about visual hacking, but use caution in determining whether you want the hardware in your home. There are a couple different systems on sale, saving you up to $159.
The most basic system offered is a five-piece kit that includes a base station that keeps the alarm system online, a keypad to arm and disarm the system, a contact sensor that monitors doors or windows, a motion detector, and a range extender to ensure each component gets proper signal. Kits with additional pieces mostly include duplicates of the aforementioned, which is intended for larger homes.
The cool thing about these security systems is that they are compatible with Amazon Alexa, which is good considering they come with a free Echo Dot. If you’re comfortable with Ring as a brand, check out its alarm systems on sale starting at $139.
