LG and Sony at their cheapest in a while
The 2020 Oscar nominees were announced on the morning of Jan. 13 and the internet has some thoughts. This tweet sums it up perfectly: “Every year the Oscar nominations are a hot mess but this year offers a particularly heated mess. “
Film fans were expecting to see acting nominations for J. Lo, Lupita Nyong’o, Adam Sandler, and Robert DeNiro, none of which happened. Perhaps the biggest blow is what Esquire refers to as the “Oscars’ Best Director Boys Club,” which shut Greta Gerwig out from Best Director consideration for Little Women.
There are some bright spots in this flaming pile of snubs: Parasite made history by being the first South Korean movie to be nominated for Best Picture and Best International Film. (The Golden Globes have a rule that Best Picture nominees must have at least 50% of the dialogue in English. The Oscars do not follow the same rule.)
But you should still watch as many of these films as you can before Feb. 9. The 2020 Oscars are sure to go down in history, and you can be a part of the argument by forming your own opinions on the contenders. The best way to experience these prized films is on a 4K TV, and there are a number on sale this week that are cheaper than their sale prices last week. You can now save over $1,000 on a 75-inch Sony, 82-inch Samsung, or 86-inch LG, all lowered since Friday.
