TL;DR: The new Beats Solo Pro are Beats’ first noise-canceling on-ear headphones and they’re on sale for $249.95 — a savings of $50 and their first online discount ever.

When they first came out in 2008, Beats were that big, ridiculous purchase that you put on your holiday list as a Hail Mary. They were cool and eccentric but looked plastic-y and had too much bass to be enjoyable.

Beats has toned it down and perfected noise cancellation over the years, but many of us are still rocking an old pair because $300 headphones are a lot to replace. If you’ve been putting that purchase off, be glad you waited: The Beats Solo Pro that just came out in October 2019 are a glow-up in pretty much every way, and are currently $50 off at Amazon. At $249.95, they’re cheaper than the Studio3 headphones, which are Beats’ older cousin and only other pair of noise-canceling headphones.

According to Amazon price tracking from camelcamelcamel, this is the first time they’ve been discounted since their release.

Damn, do you come here often?

The Beats Solo line hadn’t seen an upgrade in three years and Beats went hard on this massive redesign. They’re chic, matte, minimalistic, and look more “pro” than Beats ever have. The active noise cancellation creates the same silent euphoria that everyone loved about the Studio3, now compacted into a practical on-ear design. Those 22 hours of battery life are also glorious.

The actual ear piece is larger than that of the Solo3 but still smaller the Studio3, providing a nice middle ground for audiophiles who definitely want noise cancellation but prefer on-ear instead of over-ear. Despite bigger, squishier ear cushions, they’re noticeably tight on your head — but noise cancellation requires that fit to literally seal noise out.

If you prefer earbuds all together, the Beats PowerBeats Pro are conveniently $50 off as well. They’re Apple’s truly wireless earbuds for people who are still nervous that AirPods would fall out and into the subway tracks. Aside from the secure ear hook, they have dynamic noise isolation and, wait for it, physical buttons on each ear to control volume, playback, and calls. Since Apple owns Beats, all Beats are equipped with the AirPods’ H1 chip that skips the Bluetooth menu and automatically pairs to your iPhone or Mac.

Regularly $299.95, you can save $50 and choose from black, grey, red, dark blue, light blue, and ivory here.
