Apple’s new Mac Pro may be coming in September
Oops. Apple may have inadvertently announced a more precise launch time frame for its upcoming desktop powerhouse, the new Mac Pro.
As noted by MacRumors, the Mac Pro section on Apple’s webpage has a little “Notify me” link. Previously, when you clicked on that link, you’d get a window saying the Mac Pro was “Coming September.”
This is no longer the case, as Apple has now changed that bit to say “Coming This Fall” — but it does instil hope that the new Pro will come sooner rather than later.
Apple’s Pro Display XDR — that’s the one that doesn’t come with a $999 stand — was also listed as “Coming September” — but that, too, was changed.
In its original announcement during WWDC last week, Apple said the Mac Pro is coming in the fall, which is far less precise than September.
The fact that Apple had September listed as a launch date for the Pro, and then changed it, could mean that the company plans to launch the Pro in September, but just isn’t ready to fully commit to that time frame yet. Or it could’ve been a simple mistake. We’ll (hopefully) find out more soon.
The excitement about the new Mac Pro is pretty high, and for a good reason: It’s the most powerful machine Apple has ever created, by a good measure. It starts at $5,999, but will cost much, much more than that if you max it out with 1.5TB of RAM, a 28-core Intel Xeon processor and two AMD Radeon Pro Vega II graphics cards.
The Pro Display XDR touts 6K resolution, up to 1600 nits of brightness, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ration and over 1 billion colors. It starts at $4,999, but at that price, you will need a rock or something to prop it up, because its $999 stand is sold separately.
