Apple may be working on a 14.1-inch MacBook Pro and a new iPad mini

Looks like all MacBook Pro variants are getting bigger.

Last year, Apple replaced its top-of-the-line, 15-inch MacBook Pro with a 16-inch model that has only a slightly bigger footprint and considerably thinner screen bezels.

According to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors), Apple’s 13.3-inch MacBook Pro might get the same treatment, as the company is reportedly working on a 14.1-inch variant.

Kuo shared few details about the new laptop besides its size, but it’s plausible that it will have thinner bezels and perhaps a slightly bigger footprint than the 13.3-inch model. One feature that he did share was the new laptop’s mini-LED screen, which is a type of display that has the many advantages of OLED without its burn-in issues.

But that’s not nearly all. Kuo said Apple is working on five other mini-LED products, including a new 16-inch MacBook Pro, a 27-inch iMac Pro, 12.9-inch iPad Pro, a 10.2-inch iPad and a 7.9-inch iPad mini. He only offered timing for the iMac Pro, which should come in the fourth quarter of 2020, and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which should come in the fall. Per previous notes, the mini-Led, 16-inch MacBook Pro should arrive in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Most of these products are logical and widely expected updates of Apple’s current products, but the iPad mini is interesting for several reasons. First, if Kuo’s report is accurate, this means that not only has Apple not given up on its smallest iPad, but it’s also treating it with a fancy new display.

Woo-hoo, new iPad mini may be coming, too!

On the flip side, the 7.9-inch size indicates the new iPad mini will retain essentially the same look, which means fat bezels, Home button, and probably no Face ID, either. I’ve been hoping for an iPad mini with a bigger display in roughly the same body (with thinner bezels and no Home button, just like Apple’s iPad Pro line) forever, but I guess there’s always next time.
