Countries around the world where same-sex marriage is legal

People fighting for same-sex marriage rights around the world had a huge year in 2017. Australia, Malta, and Germany legalized same-sex marriage last year.

Australia was the latest country to join the fold in early December, when the House of Representatives passed the bill making same-sex marriage legal. That move followed a nationwide postal poll in which 61.6% of Australian voters said they were in favor of the change.

There are currently only 26 countries that allow same-sex couples to marry.
