Woman murdered at home in Woolwich as police prepare to question elderly man

Police have opened a murder investigation after an elderly woman was found dead at a house in southeast London.

Shuren Ma, 72, was killed at her home on Elmdene Road, Woolwich on 1 July.

Police said she died from a head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his early 70s sustained stab injuries and is currently in a “serious but stable” condition in hospital.

The man was present at the property when Ms Ma died.

There have been no other arrests.

A statement from Met Police said the wounded man “will be questioned in due course” as the Homicide and Major Crime Command continue to investigate.

“At this stage, officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident,” it added.

London has seen a spike in violent crime in the past year.

Mayor Sadiq Khan has been accused by his predecessor, Boris Johnson, for the rising number of knife attacks in the capital.

Mr Khan’s office has dismissed the accusation as “desperate nonsense”.
