Teen charged with murdering father in ‘chance encounter’ in Newcastle | UK News

A teenager has been charged with the murder of Peter Duncan, who was stabbed in Newcastle city centre last Wednesday.

The 17-year-old will appear in court on Monday.

Police said on Friday it appeared to have been a “chance encounter” which led to “an unprovoked attack”.

Mr Duncan, a lawyer, was assaulted inside the entrance to a shopping centre on Old Eldon Square, near the Greggs bakery, just after 6pm.

He suffered “a single puncture wound to the chest”, and later died of his injuries at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

So far, eight teenagers have been arrested in connection with the incident, although four of them have been released with no further action.

His family released a statement describing Mr Duncan as a “devoted father” who was “always first to help others”.

Anyone with information can call police on 101 quoting reference number 886 14/08/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
