At least one person has been injured following reports of an explosion near a train station in Suffolk, police have said.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the incident in Station Road, Stowmarket, shortly before 8.30pm.

Suffolk Police initially reported one person was seriously injured, but their wounds are no longer believed to be serious.

A spokesperson for East of England Ambulance Service said two people were treated for minor injuries.

One was taken to Ipswich Hospital for further treatment.

People have been urged to keep away from the area and nearby buildings were evacuated, including the train station.

Trains were unable to call at Stowmarket due to the emergency response, but the station has since reopened and trains are running.

A police and fire cordon remains in place.
