British star Olivia Colman is officially an Oscars Favourite – winning the award for best actress and promising “snogs” in an acceptance speech that had the Academy on its feet.

Her win, beating stars including Lady Gaga and Glenn Close, follows Golden Globe and BAFTA gongs for her comedic performance as Queen Anne.

Despite The Favourite and Roma both having 10 nominations, the best actress prize was the only win for the British film.

Delighted but shocked after receiving a standing ovation, she told the audience: “Ooo. It’s genuinely quite stressful.”

The 45-year-old quipped: “This is not going to happen again.”

Green Book was named best picture, while Rami Malek took home the best actor award for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.

It was one of four awards for the Queen biopic, which took home the biggest haul of trophies.

Alfonso Cuaron was named best director for Roma, which won three gongs.

And it was a history-making night for Black Panther, which also won three prizes – two of which went to black winners for the first time ever.
