Mystery of ‘murdered’ man whose selfies appeared on Facebook | UK News

A man who police believed had been murdered four years ago has reappeared in selfies on a Facebook page.

Ricardas Puisys was last seen four years ago and was aged 35 at the time.

Originally from Lithuania, Mr Puisys was working in the UK as a farm hand but disappeared.

Attempts by police to track him were unsuccessful and as there were no signs of life, Cambridgeshire Police were concerned he may have been murdered.

No body has ever been recovered.

A suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder, but released after there was insufficient evidence to charge them.

This summer, officers found a Facebook account in his name which has posted recent photos.

A statement from the police said the photos “are believed to be of him” but the mystery of whether Mr Puisys is alive continues as officers have been unable to contact him.

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Gallop, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said police are “yet to establish whether Ricardas is alive”.

“For the past four years Ricardas’s disappearance has been a complete mystery,” DCI Gallop said.

“My team have followed up a number of inquiries, however we still do not know what has happened to him.

“This investigation initially began as a missing person inquiry, however very early on it was clear to us there were no signs of life and we were concerned Ricardas had been murdered.

“Early on in the investigation we had information that Ricardas had come to some harm, as a consequence one person was arrested on suspicion of murder. However, there was insufficient evidence to charge.

“To this day we have not found his body, nor have we found any evidence telling us he is alive, that was until last summer.”

He continued: “A Facebook account has been set up in his name and photographs of who we believe to be Ricardas have been posted.

“We have been trying to make contact with the person behind this account, but are yet to establish whether Ricardas is alive.”

He said the Facebook page is being accessed and managed from somewhere in Wisbech, which is where Mr Puisys had been living before his disappearance on 26 September, 2015.
