Man arrested on suspicion of attemped murder after child found in river in Manchester | UK News



A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a young boy was pulled from a river in Greater Manchester.

Police were called to reports that a child was in the River Irwell in Greater Manchester shortly before 4.25pm today.

The boy, whose age has not been confirmed, was rescued from the river and taken to hospital.

He is in a critical condition.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

“An investigation is under way and enquiries are ongoing.”

A police cordon is in place in Blackburn Street surrounding a town centre bridge.
