‘Know that you are loved’ Ruth Davidson gives birth to baby boy Finn Paul

Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson has announced the birth of a baby boy, telling her newborn son: “know that you are loved.”

The 39-year-old posted a photo on Twitter of Finn Paul Davidson being held in the arms of her partner Jen Wilson.

Revealing the birth on Friday, Ms Davidson wrote: “Welcome to the world, little one.

“Finn Paul Davidson, born today, 10lb 1.5oz. Know that you are loved. X”

The couple were congratulated by Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who tweeted: “Many congratulations to you both. I wish wee Finn a lifetime of happiness.”

Ms Davidson announced her pregnancy via IVF treatment earlier this year, saying there had been some “ups and downs” while trying to conceive.

The Edinburgh Central MSP had to leave the Scottish Parliament chamber at one point during her pregnancy due to morning sickness.

Ms Davidson is the first female party leader in Britain to take time off to start a family, having stated her intent to take maternity leave.

Ms Davidson and Ms Wilson got engaged in 2016 while on holiday in Paris but postponed their wedding when their springer spaniel Wilson was knocked over by a car.

The resulting £10,000 vets bills “wiped out the wedding funds”, according to Ms Davidson.

On Friday, Ms Davidson also posted a picture of the couple’s dog sporting a bib with the message “Big Brother Wilson”.

The politician captioned the image: “Say, what…?!”

Ms Davidson had previously been touted as a replacement for Theresa May as Conservative leader at Westminster, but last month she ruled out taking her party’s top job for the sake of her relationship and mental health.

At the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham in September, Ms Davidson was presented with gifts for her then unborn son by the prime minister.
