Britain will bask in scorching heat of up to 30C (86F) this weekend, with temperatures set to be higher than Ibiza.

Forecasters say the balmy start to June will also see parts of the UK hotter than holiday destinations like Barcelona and St Tropez.

Met Office spokesperson Grahame Madge said Sunday is expected to be hotter than Saturday, reaching highs of 29C (84F) or 30C (86F).

Highs of 28C (82F) are expected on Saturday, with areas including Norwich, north London and the South East enjoying the highest temperatures.

The Sky News weather team predicts temperatures will reach 23C (73F) quite widely across central and southeast England on Saturday.

It will feel humid over the weekend.

However, the Met Office warned the sweltering conditions could be followed by frost before more summer weather arrives.

Parts of England could see frost in some areas on Tuesday night and over the next few days.

There is also a possibility of sleet and snow showers in the Scottish Highlands.

The Met Office spokesperson explained that temperatures will start to heat up once the warm front starts to draw warmer air across the UK.

Sky News weather producer Joanna Robinson said: “Elsewhere across the UK and Ireland, weekend temperatures will range from the high teens to the low twenties.

“If you’re not a fan of the heat, it’s likely to be short lived with cooler conditions expected next week.”

She also warned that some predictions show a “thundery breakdown” earlier in the weekend.

According to the Met Office website, Barcelona and Ibiza will reach highs of 24C (75F) on Sunday, while St Tropez is expected to hit 28C.

Bookmaker Coral has odds of 2-1 that this June will be the hottest since records began.
