Greta Thunberg named author of the year for compilation book of speeches | Climate News



Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg has been named author of the year by British bookshop Waterstones.

The 16-year-old‘s book, called No One Is Too Small To Make A Difference and is a collection of speeches she has delivered over the last couple of years about climate change.

Chapters include Our House Is On Fire and You’re Acting Like Spoiled, Irresponsible Children – a speech she delivered to EU leaders in February.

Miss Thunberg has spent the last year travelling the world, mostly using public transport and transatlantic yachts, speaking to world leaders and encouraging others to take part in climate strikes every Friday – a trend she began in Sweden.

She is currently somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean on her way to the COP25 global climate conference in Spain, after it was cancelled in Chile amid ongoing anti-government protests.

Meanwhile, the book of the year prize went to The Boy, The Mole, The Fox And The Horse by Charlie Mackesy – beating off Booker Prize winner The Testaments by Margaret Atwood.

Speaking about the winners, Waterstones campaign manager, Kate McHale said: “This year, we are delighted to name both a book that celebrates a wonderful artist, and an author whose words have had a unique impact on our world.
