Game Of Thrones: Sophie Turner hits out at ‘disrespectful’ petition calling for remake | Ents & Arts News

Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner has hit out at a petition calling for a remake of the final series, saying it is “disrespectful” to those who “worked tirelessly” on the show for more than 10 years.

The actress, who plays Sansa Stark, spoke out about the reaction to season eight after her character was crowned Queen of the North in the last ever episode on Monday.

Fans have been divided by the Game Of Thrones final series, with many criticising it for being rushed and more than 1.3 million people signing the petition set up to demand HBO remakes it.

Some viewers were also unhappy with how the story ended for Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen, who transformed from a hero to the Mad Queen – murdering thousands of innocent people.

In an interview with the New York Times following the finale, Turner said she was “honestly, not surprised” by the negative reaction from many fans, as “people always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel”.

She said the “amazing” thing about the epic fantasy series is its “crazy twists and turns, right from season one with Ned’s beheading”.

Daenerys’ transformation “shouldn’t be such a negative thing for fans”, said Turner. “It’s a shock for sure, but I think it’s just because it hasn’t gone their way.”

The star, who recently married husband Joe Jonas in Las Vegas, continued: “All of these petitions and things like that – I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots.

“So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”

The petition, set up by Dylan D, states: “David Benioff and DB Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (ie the books) to fall back on.

“This series deserves a final season that makes sense.”

He later followed this up with a longer post, clarifying that “I didn’t make this petition to be an entitled, whiny fan. I made it because I was immensely disappointed and needed to vent”.

When a show is this big, there is always going to be some criticism.

It seems the stars were braced for some negativity before the series even aired, with Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, telling Esquire in an interview: “I think no matter what anyone thinks about this season – and I don’t mean to sound mean about critics here – but whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their [negative] judgement on it, in my head they can go f*** themselves.

“Cause I know how much work was put into this. I know how much people cared about this.

“I know how much pressure people put on themselves and I know how many sleepless nights working or otherwise people had on this show. Because they cared about it so much.”
