Fresh group of suspected migrants spotted on Kent beach

Sky News has seen evidence of six suspected migrants being met by UK border officials on a south coast beach this morning.

The group were spotted on the beach at Kingsdown, Kent, by local residents along with an inflatable boat.

Kingsdown lies around seven miles from the Port of Dover.

The government has declared a “major incident” following a recent spike in reportings of attempts by migrants to cross the Channel from France.

Home Secretary Sajid Javid has cut short a family holiday to help deal with the situation, while Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson has said the UK’s armed forces “stand ready” if needed to prevent further crossings.

The National Crime Agency has warned more “highly dangerous” attempts by migrants to reach the UK are “likely”.

Sky News has contacted the Home Office over Sunday’s sighting in Kingsdown and is awaiting a response.
