Four mothers win High Court case over Universal Credit payment calculations



Four working single mothers have won a High Court challenge over the amount of benefits payable to them.

Judges announced on Friday that the women had succeeded in their judicial review to challenge the “proper method” of calculating how much money they receive under the Universal Credit scheme.

Lord Justice Singh and Mr Justice Lewis concluded that the secretary of state had “wrongly interpreted” the relevant regulations.

Amber Rudd took over the work and pensions department in November, after the resignation of Esther McVey over the Brexit deal.
