The men were arrested this morning, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Those arrested were:

  • A 23-year-old and a 22-year-old in north London on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism
  • A 19-year old man in Peterborough on suspicion of encouraging terrorism.

All five men remain in custody and searches are being carried out across the three cities as part of a pre-planned operation.

Police said the arrests were not linked to the London Bridge attack in November, nor any upcoming New Year’s Eve celebrations.

It added that there is not believed to be any imminent threat to the public.
