‘Explosions’ as 11 buses catch fire in southeast London

Explosions have been reported after 11 buses caught fire at a depot in southeast London.

Eight fire engines and 60 firefighters have been sent to tackle the flames on Farnborough Hill in Orpington after being called at 3.36am.

London Fire Brigade says it took around 40 calls about the “very visible” incident.

Cat Fitzmaurice, who lives nearby, tweeted that she had been “woken up by explosions at 4am”.

Travel in the area will be difficult this morning because of the “number of appliances in attendance”, the brigade added.

The cause of the fire is not known.
