A search is underway for a six-year-old boy who fell into a river in Sandwich, Kent.

The child fell into the River Stour at about 1.20pm.

Police have been working with the Coastguard and Kent Fire and Rescue Service to search the area.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews together with police officers and others are searching the river using the service boat.

“The Coastguard helicopter is supporting from an aerial perspective.”

A briefing was being held on Saturday evening for local residents who were helping in the search.

According to reports, the boy was wearing a black and white t-shirt when he disappeared.
