How to cancel your Spotify Premium

Published

on

Spotify Premium sure makes life easy, but it’s still a paid subscription, and those can add up.

If you’re looking to save a little on monthly subscriptions and don’t listen to a lot of music, canceling Spotify Premium even temporarily could be a smart move. Spotify offers multiple payment plans, starting at $9.99/month ($4.99/month with the Hulu and Showtime bundle for students) to enjoy its entire music library without ads.

If you use Spotify through your internet provider or another partner, you’ll need to contact them through the payment page. If you pay through an iTunes account, you have to cancel via Apple subscriptions by tapping your name under Settings and then going to Subscriptions.

For everyone else, to cancel on either the Spotify app or a browser (you can’t cancel from a mobile device), you start by clicking “Account” in the dropdown menu accessible from your profile photo.

This will open up a browser window with your account settings and billing info. Click “Change Plan” to edit these and other settings.

The next page runs down all of Spotify’s subscription plans, with “Free” all the way at the bottom. Instead of “Get Spotify Free,” it’s deliberately phrased as “Cancel Spotify Premium,” but they mean the same thing. Click on this.

Clicking cancel is not enough, as we know that any subscription service wants us to stay. The next page runs down all the drawbacks of Spotify Free: Ads every 15 minutes, limited skips, restricted mobile access (phrased to sound like none at all), and no downloads. You haven’t canceled until you click “Continue to Cancel” on this page, and this won’t go into effect until your next billing date.

If none of that works, you can fill out this form and email it to [email protected] or mail it to Sweden. Enjoy the extra cash! There are literally no other benefits to doing this.
