Goldman Sachs’ 2018 intern survey results revealed
- Goldman Sachs surveys its summer interns globally every year.
- This year’s results cover everything from ambitions to their
spending habits.
Former US President Barack Obama is the most admired figure among
this year’s global class of Goldman Sachs interns.
Each year, the investment bank surveys its annual class of summer
interns on everything from their ambitions to their spending
habits. Seventy-six percent of the 3,162 summer analysts and
associates who interned at Goldman worldwide this summer
responded to the questionnaire. Goldman published the results on
Wednesday.
One of the more frivolous results was the fact that interns
globally are willing to pay $6 on average for avocado on toast,
the popular millennial brunch dish.
Meanwhile, Barack Obama was the most popular choice as a role
model, followed by Sheryl Sandberg, Nelson Mandela, and Steve
Jobs.
Fifty-three percent of the 2018 class believe artificial
intelligence will be the biggest driver of change over the next
10 years, followed by climate change, and resource scarcity.
Sixty-five percent think cryptocurrencies will become more
prevalent over the next decade.
Fifty percent of interns said their life goal was to become CEO,
while 28% aspire to become entrepreneurs.
Just 6% of respondents said they use cash to pay for things, with
82% using credit or debit cards and 11% using mobile methods such
as Apple Pay or Android Pay.
Goldman’s 2018 intern class was drawn from nearly 500 schools
globally. Nearly half were women and more than 40% were STEM
majors.
Two international figure skating champions and a certified
sommelier were among those who participated in the 10-week
program.
