Donald Trump to launch his own social media site in a few months, adviser says
Shunned by most major social networks, including Twitter and Facebook, former President Donald Trump is ready to build his own.
Trump’s senior adviser Jason Miller told Fox News’ #MediaBuzz that Trump is going to launch his own social media platform in “two or three months.”
“This is something that I think will be the hottest ticket in social media, it’s going to completely redefine the game, and everybody is going to be waiting and watching to see what exactly President Trump does,” said Miller.
Trump was banned from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Twitch after a violent mob of extremists stormed the U.S. Capitol, following Trump’s numerous falsehoods on Twitter and other platforms regarding the U.S. elections.
Miller claims that Trump has been talking to “numerous companies” and predicts that his new platform will attract “tens of millions of people.”
For Trump, it might not be as simple as launching a new site, though. Social network Parler, backed by Trump donor Rebekah Mercer, continued to give voice to right-wing extremists after the U.S. Capitol riot, but it has struggled to stay online after it was banned by Amazon, Google and Apple. Stripe stopped processing payments for Trump’s campaign website in January. Without support from the largest cloud providers and payment processors, building a service that will scale to tens of millions of users might be a hard task for the ex-President.
