Save on Sony and LG ahead of Prime Day
Need guidance at a glance? These are our favorite deals for the weekend of Oct. 2:
We’ve known for a while now that Prime Day and Black Friday were going to be eerily close together. Thanks in part to a pandemic-induced mass shift to online shopping, we knew that the 2020 holiday shopping season would be a chaotic one.
But the calendar officially reading “October” — the month where Prime Day will occur and the month before Black Friday — make it real.
Predictions on TV deals, easily one of the most sought-after items every year, are already swarming: According to BestBlackFriday, curbside pickup might be huge. This is partially because stores won’t want big crowds indoors and partially because fragile TVs (like 75-inch models or extra-precious 8K TVs) could be popular, but hard to ship.
But if football, debates, and horror movie challenges have you needing that 4K TV now, here are the ones to snag before Prime Day. What followers are our favorite deals, organized by brand, then size, then price:
Samsung
TVs over 80 inches are expensive as it is. But cutting corners by opting for the cheapest 85-inch TV you can find isn’t always the move — especially if detail-oriented entertainment like sports or gaming is part of the daily schedule. This 85-inch beauty uses AI upscaling to scan each scene and make it as crisp as possible, plus adaptive technology that adjusts brightness and blacks based on the bright sunlight (or lack thereof) in the room.
Going with this model specifically gets you 20 more inches of screen compared to the 65-inch Q800T 8K model, which is on sale for the same price.

LG
A 75-inch TV on sale for less than $800? We’re sold on that alone — but LG didn’t skimp on the quality, either. This webOS TV simplifies streaming service organization (and makes searching easy, even if you don’t know which platform carries the show or movie you’re looking for). Content is displayed on a 4K IPS display, plus an extra oomph from active HDR.

Sony
Sony — known for pricing its TVs high and glossing over entry-level options more than other brands do — isn’t usually the company for budget-friendly beginners to look to. But this hidden gem at Best Buy is a rare chance for customers to get their mitts on 65 inches of Sony’s X1 processor (which uses an algorithm to cut distracting noise and upscale pixel detail wherever needed) for less than $700. Signing up for My Best Buy for free takes an extra $30 off.
