Huawei out-Apples Apple with new speaker design
Missing the old Mac Pro’s trash-can design? Think the HomePod isn’t shiny enough? Huawei’s got answers for both of your problems.
The company’s new smart speaker, made in partnership with fancy French audio company Devialet, looks pretty much like a cross between those two devices (as noticed by Engadget), but as far as copycats go, this one is pretty good.
Dimensions-wise, the Sound X is actually a little bigger than HomePod, measuring 203mm in height and 165mm in width, as well as 3.5kg in weight.
The Sound X makes up for the heft with some very decent specs, though. It offers 360-degree sound and a 60W dual subwoofer. It’s powered by a quad-core processor and comes with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of storage.
If you’re into Huawei’s ecosystem of smart devices, you’ll appreciate the HiLink smart home control and Huawei’s Xiaoyi voice assistant.
Huawei’s Sound X costs 1,999 yuan ($284) in China, and a stereo set is also available for 3,888 yuan ($552). No word on international availability for this one.
