For the first time in its history, Apple its annual iPhone event on YouTube. Google’s video giant, unlike Apple’s own livestream, publicly displays a live-updating viewer count.
So, how many people watch the first Apple event livestream on ?
When Apple CEO Tim Cook hit the stage at the beginning of the event, the stream was at around 800,000 concurrent viewers. The viewer count continue to grow in number, but hovered between 1.7 and 1.8 million concurrent viewers throughout the big iPhone 11 product announcement. The streams peak was around 1.86 million viewers at the beginning of the iPhone 11 Pro unveiling but dropped back down to around 1.7 million during the rest of the announcement.
At the end of the event, YouTube displayed a view count of just under 3.1 million views on the video replay. This means that the video logged that many total views throughout the entire livestream.
Apple hasn’t made its event streaming viewership numbers available before. However, it should be noted that Apple still livestreamed the event on its own event page, which is a separate stream from YouTube’s and doesn’t provide a live viewer count.
So, while we still don’t exactly know how many people in total watched, we do know how many watched the Apple event on the most popular online video platform on the planet.
