Oppo to launch Reno2 flagship with 20x zoom this month
It seems like the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom, the company’s wedge-selfie-camera phone, came out yesterday (actually, it was in June this year), and Oppo already has a successor.
According to an official tweet, the new phone is called Oppo Reno 2. It’s launching on Aug. 28 in India, and — besides the wedge selfie camera — boasts four rear cameras and 20x zoom.
It’s important to note that Oppo doesn’t say anything about the nature of that zoom — it may be optical, digital, or hybrid. The original Reno had 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom and 60x digital zoom, so it’s fair to assume that the successor will have at least that, but we’ll have to wait a bit to get all the details.
Oppo revealed no other details about this upcoming device. On thing to note, however, is that the announcement says “Oppo Reno 2 series,” meaning we’ll likely see more than one Reno 2 phone.
Oppo did something similar with the original Reno, which was closely followed by the 10x zoom variant.
The fact that the phone is launching in India first is notable, but not surprising. Smartphone manufacturers are scrambling to get a piece of India’s enormous market, and recently they’ve been launching phones with new, innovative features in India first, one example being Xiaomi’s first 64-megapixel phone, which will debut in the fourth quarter of 2019.
